In his 20s, Sam Zee became a karaoke prodigy. Now, as he grapples with poor decisions, mental health struggles, and a past he barely understands, he will reconstruct his story by mocking the songs and pop cultural objects that brought him here. It’s like VH1 Storytellers featuring Weird Al. It’s like Hedwig and the Angry Inch on This American Life. It’s like the Capitol Steps moved to the woods to become a psychedelic sex cult.
Karaoke Boy will perform in the 6:15 p.m. EST block on Saturday, December 12, 2020.
Sam Zee has written and performed comedy, music, and stories throughout the country, with main stops in Boston, Chicago, and New York. His one-man show Trust Fund Baby was performed at the People’s Improv Theater in 2019. His web series The Roommate Show (written in collaboration with Very Normal Festival performer Tom Achilles) launched this summer. His Instagram features occasional new episodes of his morning show Morning Person.
